Teenage Jenny prepared a special dinner for her mom. There is something that she’s been keeping as a secret, and now she decided to confess. Ever since her father left them, it’s just the two of them. And keeping a secret from the person whom she loves the most is a pain in her heart. While waiting in the dining room, someone rang their doorbell. They both have a key to their apartment so she knew that it wasn’t her mom yet.

She went to the door and check through the peephole. It was a delivery guy who told her that there’s a package for her mom. She took it and put it on a coffee table in the living room. She didn’t even bother to think about what was inside the package. Her mind is too occupied asking questions like, “What if she doesn’t accept it?”, “What if she got angry?”, “Is she still gonna love me?”. Despite that, she still believes that it’s time for her to confess… to come out of the closet.
Her mom finally arrived. Wearing a bright smile, showing how the day was really great. Jenny wished that she could join her mom’s joy, but she’s too nervous to do so. But her mom noticed it the second they sat down to eat.
When she was asked what’s wrong– she replied the big words to start, “Mom… I want to confess something about me.” Her mom asked what it was, still wearing a smile, seems trying to make her comfortable.
Jenny started her confession with words that melted her mom’s heart. She told her mom how much she loves her, and how thankful she is for everything. She also said how painful it is to keep a secret from the woman she values the most in this world. Then after a long pause… she finally said, “I’m sorry, mom… I’m gay.”
There was a moment of silence between them. The wide smile that her mom has been wearing was gone too. Jenny looked down. Her heart was racing. She doesn’t know what to think aside from walking out and going straight to her room if this silence won’t break.
Then she heard her mom let out a sigh. “I don’t know why you should be sorry… because there isn’t. There’s nothing wrong with what you just said,” her mom said.
“You’re not mad?” she replied with a teary eye.
“Of course not! Why should I? And… I always knew. You’re my daughter after all.”
Jenny burst into tears and she took her mom to her arms. She couldn’t believe that her mom will accept her for who she is and what she prefers.
After making each other feel how much they love one another, her mom asked if there was a delivery for her. They both went to the living room and opened the package. It was the “Fresh Beginning” a special flower arrangement of cymbidium orchids, roses, and hydrangeas by Floral Bottega.
“I told you that I always knew. I even knew that you are confessing today. And this flower is for you,” said her mom. “Like this flower, there’s beauty in transformation. Confessing to me was really brave of you, my dear. And you– changing your preferences in life is a beauty. Don’t ever feel sorry for that.”
Jenny was really thankful that it went well for her. She’s very lucky to have her mom, and the flower shows it all. Truly, there’s beauty in a transformation that needs to be celebrated.
