Drying Flowers for Candle Making
Aside from using it to make teas or as an additional ingredient or garnish– we can also use flowers for candle making. Surprised to read that? Flowers can really make almost everything prettier and candles are not an exemption. Let me teach you how to do it. It’s very easy and inexpensive, but what you’ll produce is something luxurious.
How to Make Dried Flowers
Before we get to candle making, let me teach you how to make dried flowers. I recommend two ways. The first way is to tie their stems and hang them together upside-down in a well-ventilated, warm, dark place. The other way is to dry them in the oven– just be careful not to burn them.
What you Need to Make Candles with Dried Flowers
To make candles with dried flowers, here are the ingredients. But please note that the measurement I used here is for making at least 4 candles in shot glasses. Adjust yours if you have a much bigger container or if you want to produce more.

- Dried Flowers
- Essential Oil for Additional Scent
- 4 Candle Wicks
- 4 Shot Glasses (You can use any containers you want.)
- A Dedicated Pot for Candle making
- Wooden skewers
- Glue
How to Make Candles with Dried Flowers
Now here’s an easy step to candle making. Just follow it carefully and you’ll create your very first candles with dried flowers.
Step 1: Use a measuring cup to measure the wax flakes and put them into the dedicated pot.
Step 2: Heat the pot on the stovetop to melt the wax.
Step 3: Once the wax is melted, remove it from the stove. Add fragrance oil– about 6-10% of the overall weight of the wax, or 7 drops. Stir to mix well using wooden skewers. If you don’t want scented candles, don’t add essential oil.
Step 4: Attached the wicks into the bottom of the shot glasses using glue. The other end should be tied in a wooden skewer. Make it look like a well. This will secure the position of the wick. Once the wick has settled, you can add the dried flowers if you want them at the bottom too.
Step 5: Gently pour the wax into the containers (shot glasses in this instance) and leave about ¼ inch of space from the top.
Step 6: Add the dried flowers. Carefully place it on the side or at the top. Just make sure that it will get mixed with the wax while it’s not yet dry.
Step 7: Wrap the containers in a cloth to avoid cracking of wax. And then let it dry.
Step 8: Cut the wicks and enjoy your DIY Scented Candle with Dried Flowers.
Now that you know flowers can be used to make beautiful candles– I think it’s time for you to consider it first before throwing those flowers you bought or were given to you as a gift. Or maybe this is also an opportunity for you to start your own beautiful candles business.
